Every year around the world, an event to raise awareness about Alzheimer related dementia takes place. World Alzheimer’s Day 2018 – 21st September helps to not only raise awareness but reduce the stigma surrounding the disease.

What is Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease. It can occur at any age although it is more common in middle and old age. Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia. Typically, Alzheimer’s accounts for up to 80% of dementia cases.  It can cause problems with memory, thinking and behaviour. While the disease starts to develop slowly, it can gradually get worse over time. It can become so severe that it affects daily tasks.

There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s.

How to get involved in World Alzheimer’s Day 2018 – 21st September

The purpose behind World Alzheimer’s Day 2018 – 21st September s to raise awareness. Two-thirds of people around the world believe there is little to no understanding of dementia in their country. You can help to raise awareness by;

Dementia Awareness training

Offering Dementia Awareness training can help your clients and their employees to understand more about what dementia and Alzheimer’s is. Furthermore, it can help people to spot the signals of dementia and the best ways to work with people who may be suffering from dementia. You can see the training course for yourself with a free trial here.

Hold a fundraiser

Your team can hold a fundraising event that not only helps to raise awareness of dementia on World Alzheimer’s Day 2018 – 21st September. This could be as wild as an outdoor challenge or a fun office bake sale. To help with your event, you can download a World Alzheimer’s Day 2018 – 21st September toolkit with posters here.
