Asbestos is probably the most dangerous building material ever used. Every year thousands of people fall ill and die because of exposure to asbestos and the construction industry widely used it right up until the year 2000.

The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) apply to employers, employees, self-employed persons and duty holders and cover all work with asbestos-containing materials. Regulation 10 of CAR states that every employer must ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos. This includes maintenance workers and others who may come into contact with or disturb asbestos.

As well as informing candidates about the risks of working with asbestos, this Asbestos Awareness E-learning Course will deliver content to help them recognise asbestos-containing materials, make them aware of where it was used, including steps they can take to minimise the risks and discuss the legislation that applies to working with asbestos.

Asbestos Awareness Target Audience

The Asbestos Awareness E-Learning course is designed for anyone who may come into contact with asbestos in their work. Most commonly, that includes builders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and other building-related and maintenance trades.

From its base in Barnham, Sussex, SME Advisor provides a range of HR and Health and Safety consultancy services to small-to-medium-sized businesses, across a variety of sectors. TSS Facilities Ltd is a facilities management company based in Hove, Sussex. The company has been trading for 47 years and covers four main disciplines - commercial heating, electrical, air conditioning and legionella. TSS Facilities holds maintenance contracts with universities, schools, hotels and local authorities.

‘Before we started using VideoTile,’ says Water Treatment Director, Steve Tugwell, ‘we offered classroom-based training which was only suitable for large groups. But, now, training is available as a mix of classroom training and VideoTile courses for everyone - right down to single people at separate or remote sites. Typically, we train premises managers, people in charge of office blocks, caretakers, and client staff who handle maintenance and need to be aware of other issues that could affect their role.’

The company also uses classroom training and VideoTile e-learning courses to explain large complex reports, such as Legionella risk assessments.
