The moggy dangles onto the fridge freezer with his feet dangling before landing on the kitchen counter. It then turns to the open freezer, ready to devour the contents. More than 160,000 people have watched the funny clip which shows just how viral a video can become on a global scale.

Obama Succeeds YouTube Milestone

August 2nd, 2012

Online videos have played a huge part in Barack Obama’s political campaign and now the President has made a YouTube landmark.

The 50-year-old has passed a milestone with over 200 million views on the video sharing website. YouTube allows the American, like other politicians, to communicate directly to potential voters across a vast platform, reaching further audiences worldwide and he has succeeded millions of views of his online videos.

Obama’s YouTube page was established in 2006 when he was first running for senator in Illinois but over the past six years he has clocked up 204,048,235 views. The most popular video on his channel is a clip of him dancing with Ellen Degeneres to Beyoncé which gained him 12 million views but back in 2006 it started with just 14 videos of interviews.

Since then Obama has published over 2,000 videos and the most watched one so far this year is the launch of African Americans for Obama which has had almost 3 million views.

It shows just how influential online video is and in such a technologically advanced society. It is crucial that politicians jump on board the band wagon and utilise the benefits of video.

According to numerous reports, many political campaigns are increasingly moving online and many are reaping the advantages as a fundamental communications tool. Video is now a “core element” of a presidential race due to its accessibility and easy-to-use nature and as a result, it is becoming more and more popular.

Why is online video utilised in politics?

Almost a third of voters were informed about the 2010 mid-term elections thanks to video, according to the Pew Research Center and Rammya Raghavan, YouTube’s news and politics manager, told The Guardian that the presence of campaigns are starting to rise.

Now there are over 600 candidates for US office that host their own official channel on YouTube and many politicians direct their supporters from their own websites to the video sharing website for video content.

Another advantage is that politicians can bypass the media to produce their own content. In the past, candidate depended on media outlets to get their own message across and to receive air time but YouTube enables them to publish their own videos without assistance. And by doing so, they can control how they are portrayed.

As an expert corporate and promotional web video production services company, Video Tile can help you take advantage of the online platform and boost your business’s marketing efforts.

New Censorship Rules for Videos in China

July 17th, 2012

Websites in China have been ordered to pre-screen all its video content under new censorship rules from the broadcasting regulator.

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has told all video sharing sites that the onus is on them to check all videos before publishing to remove violence, pornography and swearing.

Site administrators are expected under the watchdog’s new rules to ensure nothing vulgar or violent is published online- or face a penalty. Distributors of online video programming are responsible for violations of the rules so they must fully examine videos to make sure they are appropriate.

SARFT state that the revised regulations are necessary to protect young people’s mental health as well as promote high quality content. It is reported that there were a number of complaints received from concerned parents over obscene content available to children online.

Youku, China’s most visited online video site, told the BBC it will not be affected by the changes because it already employs hundreds of video-checkers.

This is not the first time the Chinese government has intervened in tightening online censorship. Video sharing website YouTube has already been blocked as well as other overseas video sites. And 10 video sharing websites were ordered to close down and stop operations back in 2008.

Cats Take Over The Web

July 12th, 2012

Everyone knows about the bizarre things that are available to watch on You Tube, such as cats playing the keyboard and dogs dancing, but now a film festival is set to celebrate the webs furriest, sorry funniest, viral videos.

The Internet Cat Video Film Festival is set to take place on 30th August in the US.  Katie Czarniecki Hill, the organiser of the event says it’s a time for people to come together and LOL (laugh out loud).

It will be the world’s first film festival dedicated to viral felines, proving just how influential and powerful the phenomenon is of sharing cute videos online. She says that fans have until the 30th July to nominate their favourite clip.

At the event, clips of cats that have made it to this stage will be projected onto a wall near the Walkers Arts Centre in Minneapolis. So does a kitten Festival sound like your ideal dream? If so, get involved by voting for your favourite clip that could ultimately make it to the event.

Cat Pianist

Cute videos have become more and more popular and a keyboard playing cat is no exception. The cat musician was uploaded onto You Tube in 2007 and has had over a massive 25 million hits so far!

Even blogs have been made for all the cat lovers round the world. I Can Haz Cheezburger is one of the most popular, getting more than a million hits every day. It was sold in 2007 for a massive $2 million (£1.3m).

Ed Robinson, creative director at London-based agency The Viral Factory believes that cat videos would always remain popular among internet users.

He said: “At some stage in the early internet it was just discovered that if you animate any kind of image of a kitten doing a dance then it was a universal language of joy, it works across all cultures, all languages… and we are genetically tuned to have an emotional response to cute animals.”

Dogs still have their fair share of glory as a ‘talking’ dog is the video that was viewed the most times on You Tube in the UK last year, but it seems dogs are too busy chasing sticks to be as You Tube famous as cats.

Viral videos can reap tons of benefits to businesses across the UK; speak to the experts at Video Tile today to find out how.

Google Axe Google Video

July 10th, 2012

If we were to go back a mere six years the world wouldn’t have a clue what YouTube was. Now with an incredible three billion hours of video being watched each month, we wouldn’t be able to live without it.

Google recently announced that they would be closing their original video, Google Video, but will still continue to run You Tube and its video search. Another service to be axed is iGoogle. Google says that specialised service is largely unnecessary today as smartphone applications fulfil the same function.

It can be said that the whole of society knows or has used YouTube at some point in their lives.

YouTube allows anyone with an account to upload any video they want and let the world view it. This can be of a pet doing a trick, yourself playing an instrument or you talking to the camera, reviewing a camera or service.

One of the most famous people to come from YouTube is Justin Bieber. He has, from a young age posted videos of himself performing and he is now one of the biggest names in music, which is why there are countless number of people trying to follow his lead. Other people like BertieBertG, Harrison Webb, Kick the PG and Marcus Butler, who are famous bloggers, who get over 100,000 views just to talk to the camera!

Music videos from the likes of Rihanna are available to watch on YouTube as well as TV series that you can catch up on. Also film trailers and even old films are on YouTube. Pretty much anything you want to watch, you will find it on YouTube as it becomes the market leader for video sharing.

Here are a few statistics about YouTube:

  • Over 3 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube
  • In 2011, YouTube had more than 1 trillion views or around 140 views for every person on Earth
  • 100 million people take a social action on YouTube (likes, shares, comments, etc) every week
  • Clicks on the ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ button on YouTube have doubled since the start of 2011. For every ‘dislike,’ they get 10 ‘likes’- people like to tell other people about the content they love.

Video Tile specialise in web video production but we also offer expert social media and mobile strategy including the platforms YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

Epic London 2012 Olympic Video Revealed

June 29th, 2012

The official trailer for the London 2012 Olympics has been revealed. The three-minute clip features a title sequence for the BBC’s Games coverage and it is accompanied by Elbow’s ‘epic’ theme music ‘First Steps’.

The online video depicts the UK landscape as a giant sports stadium with athletes training hard in anticipation for the Olympics. The beach acts like a gigantic sand pit, the sea as a humongous swimming pool and cliffs as enormous diving boards.

The impressive animation has been hailed on social networking sites with users praising the clip as ‘uplifting’. One user on video sharing website YouTube claimed: “If this doesn’t get you pumped for the games, I don’t know what will.” It has already had over 200 views.

However, the broadcasting corporation has come under fire for the animation with allegations that they have copied Lloyds TSB advert. They have been accused of copying the bank’s adverts with many viewers noting similarities between the two. Both were created by the same London agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe Y&R.

The Lloyds TSB ‘For the Journey’ adverts are renowned for their animated characters and the new BBC trailer features fisherman, a BMX rider, boxers and track cyclists all of which are cartoon like.

A BBC Sport spokesman told the Daily Mail that the marketing campaign was “absolutely nothing like the Lloyds TSB campaign” and that animation had been used from summer and winter Olympic programming.

They said: “‘The concepts behind the animation are different, the animation used in the BBC’s London 2012 trail is a realistic animation style unlike the Lloyds TSB adverts, and they were designed by different animation production companies.”

Rise in Americans Using Video Sharing Sites

June 26th, 2012

There has been an increase in the number of American adults who use online video sharing websites, according to a recent survey.

Findings in a recent survey by Pew Internet reveal that online video is soaring and that 71% of people from United States now use websites like YouTube and Vimeo. This is a rise from 66% the same time last year and the daily usage on such video sharing sites has also climbed from 23% in May 2010 to 28% in May 2011.

Kathleen Moore, author of the report, said: “The rise of broadband and better mobile networks and devices has meant that video has become an increasingly popular part of users’ online experiences.”

According to the national poll of 2,277 Americans, all aged over 18 years-old, rural internet users are just as likely as users in urban and suburban areas to use video sharing websites.

Moore added: “People use these sites for every imaginable reason – to laugh and learn, to watch the best and worst of popular culture and to check out news. And video-sharing sites are very social spaces as people vote on, comment on, and share these videos with others.”

As the author has stated, there are numerous reasons why video sharing websites are increasing in popularity. People like to read or watch interesting content and to pass this on to their friends and family.

Imagine the possibility if viewers shared your business’s content and boosted your brand’s presence online? You can increase your target audience and reach vast viewers online with high quality, interactive video.

Queen to Broadcast Diamond Jubilee Thankyou Video on YouTube

June 5th, 2012

Her Majesty The Queen is said to be broadcasting a special video online tonight to give thanks for the Diamond Jubilee.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Queen will give a rare unique broadcast which will be transmitted on television radio and YouTube.

The video will be published in the UK and across the Commonwealth and will be available on the Royal Channel on YouTube. The message was recorded in the Presence Room before the Jubilee Concert took place and it will last just over two minutes.

Such online videos are scarce for the royals other than the annual Christmas message. Elizabeth II addressed the Gulf War back in1991, and in 1997 she broadcast the nation live as a tribute to the Princess of Wales.

The Diamond Jubilee celebrations have involved the royal family enjoying a mesmerising music concert organised by Take That star Gary Barlow, as well as the thanksgiving service at St Paul’s cathedral. Unfortunately, the Duke of Edinburgh has been missing from the Queen’s side for both events due to being taken ill in hospital.

Prince Philip, 90, is said to being treated at King Edward VII Hospital in London for a bladder infection and has missed the celebrations to mark the Queen’s 60 years in reign. A spokesperson has said that he was taken as a precautionary measure and will remain under observation for a few days.

It can be expected that the video will not be humorous or viral in contrast to Prince Charles’ heartfelt but amusing speech at the Diamond Jubilee concert which was staged near Buckingham Palace. He stood on stage in front of the 100,000 strong crowd laughing as he called the Queen “Your Majesty…Mummy.”

Videos such as these attract thousands of views and you can boost your presence online too with the help of Video Tile.
